Lyrics & Letters is an exploration in type, as well as an extensive research project about the past ten decades in music. This installation includes ten song lyrics from the past ten decades that have been hand lettered to fit the design style of that time period, and then laser cut and placed on a 10” x 10” piece of acrylic. Each lyric was chosen to represent the design style of the decade as well as the current state of America at that time. Along with the exhibit itself, a book that goes into detail about the research done for this project was also designed and printed. This collaborative project won a silver Addy at the 2018 Akron Addy Awards, and is permanently on display within The University of Akron’s Meyers School of Art.
